Authentic Caricatures for Weddings, Pets or Self Portraits
On a recent visit to Maryborough, Queensland, I came across a new business named Caricature Queen HQ in Kent Street. Proprietor, Dr Jay Harley (aka Caricature Queen, and affectionately known as "Queen") has been drawing caricatures since her teenage years in Sydney and throughout her successful career in art, radio, television, comedy, acting and management. Queen was also the cartoonist for Reptiles Australia, Ozbike and Australia's Harley-Davidson Magazine for many years.

Caricature Queen has been operating for many years as an online service, but the recent opening of a shopfront has given the business a renewed spark of opportunity and connectedness with the local community. The shop is frequently a hive of activity, banter and humour.
At the youthful age of seventeen, Queen left Sydney and purchased her first home in Stones Corner, Brisbane, then returned to Sydney and overseas before considering where she and her husband would settle for a carefree life in retirement.

Queen's passion is the creation of authentic, free-hand caricatures through a digital medium, although she also does traditional pen and ink creations. Several Maryborough businesses have welcomed the opening of her CBD premises and have commissioned her to prepare shop front logos and signs. Although, this is not the only style of work she creates.
Over the years Queen has created amazing pieces for notable people, engagements, weddings, pet, family and group portraits, funky cartoons, website designs, signage, murals, business cards, gifts and more. Recently Queen was asked if she could attend a dog event in Hervey Bay and draw caricatures of dogs and their owners. She's a strong advocate for supporting community events and often turns up wearing her crown!
Take A Seat, Feel Comfortable to Discuss Your Portrait Requirements (Author's Photo)
For commissioned work, Queen has two prices to consider; a standard, which is a basic piece from one photograph, or a premium price, the latter of which is a very detailed final masterpiece. A list of prices is on the website and discussions are held with Queen before purchase, so you are comfortable with the final product. Queen describes ordering a caricature as an "experience", and has observed the excitement of customers, both in the anticipation of awaiting their caricature, and in receiving it.
If you have a business that would like to spruce up your walls or façade; have a special occasion or just want a detailed and real-life caricature portrait of yourself and your family, please give Queen a call or pop into her business in Maryborough. If you are not local to Maryborough, all these services are still available. Queen is occasionally commissioned to provide artwork for customers overseas.

If your business or event is looking for a guest speaker, then look no further than Queen as she is also a competent conference speaker, a published author and stand-up comedian. In fact, in her alter ego role of Mrs Bonfire, she made the semi-finals in Australia's Got Talent in 2019.
Caricature Queen HQ is located at 387 Kent Street, Maryborough, telephone 0424 187 967 and is open from Monday to Friday,10.00am to 2.00pm or other times by appointment. If you are from out of town, there is a Contact Form on the website where you can send a request or email CaricatureQueen@gmail.com.
