Caribbean Market
When the Melbourne winter can be discouraging from getting outdoors, a great alternative is to explore an indoor market. An ideal market (especially on a rainy day), is the Caribbean Market and its surrounding parkland.
The Caribbean Market is based in Scoresby near the corner of Studd & Fern Tree Gully Road. It's roughly a 30 minute drive from Melbourne CBD and offers free parking plus entry into the market is wheelchair accessible.
Once you arrive at the park area called Caribbean Gardens, you'll be welcomed by a tannoy system playing modern pop music across the surrounding parklands, plus there's also an Avery and nearby cafes in case you need to recharge before exploring the variety of stalls.
The market has a whole range of items available from fresh meats, fruit & veggies to everyday craft and bric-a-brac items, plus much more. Exploring the whole market can take up to three hours at a leisurely pace and is open three days a week as follows:
Wednesday: 08.30 - 16.00
Friday: 08.30 - 16.00
Sunday: 08.30 - 18.00
Admission is free except on Sundays which is $2.50, or $1 for Pensioners & U13's
If you're really enjoying the market experience, you can even hire a stall and maybe spend a rainy day selling off some unwanted items or a bunch of home made crafts that have been stockpiled over the years. Either way, the market has plenty of variety to explore as well as parklands to keep children entertained whilst the serious haggling is taking place.
