Are you a carer for a person on an ongoing basis - someone with a disability, a chronic illness, or an elderly person?

If so, it's probably a fair bet that you feel overwhelmed and isolated a least some of the time. If it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to care for the people in the village ... especially those who have more complex needs. Unfortunately, our village doesn't always work well in its current version when it comes to looking after each other.

Carers often find themselves struggling to do too much on their own, and struggling with resentment and guilt, and may feel hesitant to talk to other people about the experience. Caring can be very isolating.

With this in mind, the beautiful peeps at Irabina Childhood Autism Services and Ripple Kindness Project are hosting a day just for you - a free day of fun, laughter and relaxation where you can choose from a variety of therapies, services and activities:

If you wish to take part in any of the asterisked activities, all you need to do is book by either emailing Diane on [email protected] or calling her on 9839 3028.

Morning and afternoon tea will be provided.

This is a day for you, to put your caring aside and focus on yourself, a chance to unwind, relax and have some fun.

There are around 2.6 million carers in Australia, with over 770,000 providing primary care to a person, and with another 1.5 million providing care for someone whilst working a job.

Taking time out for yourself is difficult when you are a carer. Even if you know that it's not only vital for you but it's also vital for the quality of care you provide, getting past the guilt that you may feel is difficult. It's difficult, but it's important.

For further information about services and programs that are available for carers and those they care for, see Carers Victoria and Carers Australia . Information about payments available to carers, a pittance though they be, can be found at the Australian Government website here , while other information, including respite services available to carers, can be found here .
