As part of the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area,
Cape Range National Park has something for everyone from walkers and campers to swimmers and snorkellers. Its rugged limestone range and arid coastal plain beautifully contrast the unspoilt blue waters. Wildlife such as kangaroos, emus, echidnas, birds and rock wallabies call the park home.
Yardie Creek is one of the unique features of the park. Fed from the ocean, salt water flows permanently between sheer cliffs. The gorge cuts deep into the limestone and is just spectacular. Within the gorge walls, you'll see rare black-footed rock wallabies resting on the ledges. An easy walking trail with several vantage points can be found above the vertical red rock walls.
Alternatively, you could also explore the gorge by water.
Yardie Creek Boat Tours offer relaxing hour-long cruises along the creek. We incorporated the cruise into our visit and were not disappointed. Our tour guide Peter was very knowledgeable and gave us a rundown on the area's flora and fauna. And, of course, he pointed out all the rock wallabies too.
On the way to/from Yardie Creek, be sure to stop at
Mangrove Bay for birdwatching and
Turquoise Bay for swimming and snorkelling.
Milyering Discovery Centre has interpretive displays as well as audio-visuals if you're interested.
For those with a 4WD, you can explore breathtakingly deep canyons on the eastern side of the park. Both
Charles Knife Canyon and
Shothole Canyon await you. The roads here are unsealed and winding, so do drive to the conditions. Tackling the walking trails would require some experience too. For details of other attractions, please head to the park's website at
