Sick of cooking dinner?
Life is so busy these days and we never seem to have enough hours in the day to fit everything in, so a meal cooked by someone else and no washing up afterwards is just the thing at least one night a week.
Capalaba Sports Club on Ney Road is in walking distance from my place and I can catch the courtesy bus home if I choose. Different specials are provided each night so you can choose your night off as chef. Tuesday you may like to have lasagne, Thursday a rump or Friday fish of the day, all served with chips and salad. Specials are available each night of the week. Or you may just prefer to choose from the menu provided, the choice is yours. The night my brother and I dined out, he gave the thumbs up to vegetarian lasagne and I was very impressed by the fish of the day coming out with calamari as well. High Steaks Restaurant certainly don't skimp on size either. As the old saying goes, if the restaurant is busy and full of people, you know you have come to the right place to eat.
Membership is only $5.50 per year and you can use your reciprocal card from other clubs around the area. Your membership also grants you entry to other reciprocal clubs. When you join you receive a "Members Benefits Handbook" giving you all the information you will require to know about your club and monthly benefits as a member. As an example, in February you can receive a 25% discount when you dine in the "High Steaks" Restaurant (up to the value of $50).
The booklet is full of other discount vouchers from local stores and it's great to see that not only do these businesses get to advertise in this handbook, but we, as members, get some benefits as well. "AMF Bowling at Capalaba offers "buy one game, get one free".
And if you are looking for that venue to hire for a wedding, birthday, conference or Christmas function Capalaba Sports Club can cater for that too. Corporate functions such as barefoot bowls can be arranged with a barbeque area for hire as well.
Usual club facilities like pokies, Keno, raffles and bingo are available during the week. Responsible gambling is encouraged at all times. With regard to entertainment, artists vary so it is best to check their website for more details. Although I'm nowhere near retiring age, I look forward to attending Morning Melodies when I reach that time.
So the next time you feel like a night free from cooking, drop into Capalaba Sports Club, you won't be disappointed.
