A Little Bit of the Country in the City
When I drove into Capalaba Produce, we were welcomed with old wooden country style farm buildings. A windmill added to the rustic charm of this place and for a moment I thought I was in the country. But Capalaba Produce, with its small village feel, is actually a pet store with a difference. It is divided into different buildings and each have their own speciality area. There is Kiwi Fine Foods, Capalaba Saddlery, the Hay Shed, Ted's Corner, and Capalaba Produce's main building which is a pet store and a nursery.
A Country Feel
Ted's Corner is a great place to visit with young children. We got to see a variety of farm animals that are for sale, including sheep, cows, geese, chickens, ducks, goats, peacocks and more. Some of the animals roam freely around the grounds which make you believe you are actually on a farm. Once a month Capalaba Produce provide free pony rides, so check out their Facebook page for dates and times. My little girl loved seeing all of the animals and has since asked if we can go back again.
Young Children Will Love Ted's Corner
Some Animals Roam Freely
As well as being able to purchase turtles, mice, birds and fish, the pet store caters for all your animals. You can buy all of your pet's food and treats, in addition to purchasing things like chicken coops and fencing.
Get Everything For Your Pet
From the Hay Shed you can buy your hay, straw and mulch, and there plenty of signs posted to say that the staff will load all of your heavy goods into your car for you. We saw proof of this during our visit.
The small nursery was well stocked and had a good selection of plants.
A Good Variety of Plants to Choose From
Crossing the car park we went to see what the Saddlery had to offer. We were welcomed into the store and although we were just browsing the staff were very helpful. The Saddlery supplies everything for both horse owners and riders. The store had horse saddles, bridles, stirrups, hats, safety equipment and much more. Capalaba Saddlery have their own website, so for more information and their opening hours, be sure to check it out at here.
We then followed the verandah around to the back of this building and found garden furniture and quirky garden ornaments for sale. My daughter was intrigued by them.
Take a Friend Home
Eventually we were led into Kiwi Fine Foods store. The small store stocked a variety of goods imported from New Zealand. You can buy New Zealand biscuits, sauces, chocolates, chips and other goods. The store also sells small home decorations which were tasteful and modern. There were some lovely gift ideas. For more details check out their website. Their opening times differ from the other areas of Capalaba Produce. If you can't make it to the store you can also make purchases online.
There Were Lovely Little Gifts to Buy
Kiwi Fine Foods is home to Capalaba Produce's own café. Here we sat on the verandah and had a coffee and a cake and my daughter enjoyed an ice cream. The cafe is only small but it was a nice way to finish off exploring what Capalaba Produce had to offer.

So before you head to the large chain pet shops or garden centres, pay a visit to Capalaba Produce and take your little one to Ted's Corner. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
You do not have to be a "little one" to enjoy Ted's Corner. Why does everyone seem to think that animals are only for kids' enjoyment? If more adults took as much interest in animals as I do, then we certainly wouldn't have anywhere near the abuse and neglect that I see at the shelter I volunteer at. How about telling people that Ted's Corner is something everyone will enjoy?
