Do you have a wedding or other family celebration that requires flowers in bulk? Do you have a friend who needs cheering up with a bunch of fresh flowers? Or do you like a fresh vase of blooms in your home, just because you can?

Just because I can.....
Twenty plus years living in the Redlands, South East of Brisbane and bordering Moreton Bay and I've only just come across Capalaba Carnations. A wholesale florist open to the public with a flower farm down Redland Bay Way, Capalaba Carnations operates out of a large tin shed at 2 St Anthony's Drive, Alexandra Hills.

Entrance to the shed
Granted, it's not an attractive tin shed, though the flowers within are just beautiful. When I visited, I was clueless as to what I was after except that a friend had just had a nasty operation. I was invited into the cool room where the range of bouquets was dazzling. And no, not just carnations. Arrangements included roses, lilies, and my favourite, native blooms.

Native bouquet
Capalaba Carnations is open seven days a week, which is handy. The hours are as follows:
Monday to Friday - 8am to 5:30pm
Saturday - 8am to 5:00pm
Sunday - 8am to 1:00pm
Parking is plentiful, though they do not do deliveries.

The colours are just gorgeous
Prices seem quite reasonable, slightly less than the supermarkets, but how can you put a price on the pleasure that a bunch of colour and fragrance can provide?

My selection
American Botanist, Luther Burbank, once said, "
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul". How very true.
