Support young people living with cancer
When I was a teenager, my biggest dramas seemed to be times I was caught in between trivial fights with friends, boyfriends or what I was going to do with my life after school. Many years on none of that is close to being on my mind.. despite the last one. I mean do we ever really know what we are going to be when we grow up? What is the defining point of us being " grown up"? Anyway I am getting off track. The point is, I really didn't have anything heavily impacting on my life, and you know what? I am incredibly lucky for that!
The reality is, that so many young people have it a lot harder and are going through something much more challenging, without any support. I am talking about cancer. It's a word that many of us fear, and often feel uncomfortable talking about. But it's important we do because the more we talk about it, the easier it is for understand, to gain support and deal with.
Many young people and adults alike are unaware that there is free support close-at-hand. CanTeen is an organisation for young people between 12-24 living with cancer. This is not only young people who are experiencing cancer themselves, but young people who have parents, siblings or have lost someone close to them to cancer.
Next month CanTeen are hosting an event fundraiser not to be missed: CanQuiz Night. CanQuiz won't be your average quiz night with such little buzz you can hear the clock tick while you are offered prizes that remind you of those you've been re-gifted by your distant Aunty.
CanQuiz will be a night of fun, with food supplied by Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis from Sprout, live music and special guest presenters.
So if you are reading this thinking that you would like to help out, CanQuiz is a great way to support local young people living with cancer with all proceeds going providing them with support. So why not come along, put on your thinking caps and have a great night out, knowing that you are making a difference to your community. Oh and the prizes, they'll be something you'll actually want to win.
Guests must be over 18 to attend this event, with the option to purchase drinks at the venue.
If you would like more information on the type of support CanTeen offer check out the CanTeen website.
