Where can you go canoeing in New York City? The Bronx.

Do you know that the Bronx River Is New York City's only true fresh water river? In the early 1830's it was considered a source for New York City's drinking water.

On May 5th, 2012 The Bronx River Alliance is offering their first 13th Annual Bronx River canoeing of the season.

If you are 18 years and older, have a little bit of paddling experience and like mixing some exercise and adventure with a dash of nature this paddling trip is a perfect cocktail for you. Paddling along the Bronx River for about 6 miles. Say hello to two beavers named "Jose and Justin" who have made the Bronx River their home.

The event starts at 9am. Expect to get wet, dirty and maybe muddy. Wear comfortable light quick drying clothes, including closed toe or an old pair of sneakers. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Check the weather forecast for the day before you leave the house. The Bronx River Alliance provides a dry bag to each canoe, but pack light. Ziploc bags are good for your cameras, cell phones, and wallets.
