Occasionally you hear of an event with a special focus on kids. In particular, a focus on numeracy and literacy that is quite outside of the normal parameters we tend to think of as what is practical or usual. Council libraries often have special reading times and writers who come and visit while reading from their books. Then there are really special events.

Canine Comprehension will be holding a Free Reading Event at Rainy Day Books in the Basin on Friday 2nd October 2015. Story times will be at 11 am and 1 pm.

Canine Comprehension is all about Dog Assisted Literacy.

Dogs work with a tutor in creating fun and memorable learning experiences for children in a positive and relaxed atmosphere. A reading corner is set up to allow children to take time out and to sit with one of the specially trained and friendly dogs, to grab a book and to read in a happy environment.

Parents are encouraged to also grab a pillow, sit down with their child and literacy dog and to share the readings.
