A new two day family-friendly Portuguese and Brazilian festival, Canguru na Folia (meaning Kangaroo Revelry), is set to entertain with live music and performances that many of us have likely not experienced.
These vibrant cultures are giving us an insight into their worlds with a load of dancing to exotic beats of Brazilian drums and Samba music, along with a bar and food stalls that will have your taste buds dancing too.
Fun activities will keep the kids busy and all, young and old, are encouraged to dress in carnival costume. Competitions for best dressed, etc. could see you walking away with a prize.
Below is the program for each day, with the first day being aimed at young adults and the second day being more for children, families and seniors.
Samba Roots Band
Singer Telma Calado
7-piece band Ganza Project
Bar – try Caipirinha (Brazil's national cocktail), Skol (Brazil's favourite beer) or Aussie beer
Bar – try Guarana Antartica (Brazil's national drink), a guarana-flavoured soda
The fun is all being held at the Sydney Portuguese Community Club in Marrickville, just a 5 minute walk from Sydenham railway station. Limited free car parking is available. Saturday's festivities (day one) run from 6pm until midnight whilst Sunday's enjoyment (day two) is from 11am until 4pm.
Entry for club members is free. Non-members are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate on the day.
