Grab the esky & the snags and have fun at the local park
As the weather warms up in Canberra, we can start to head outdoors and enjoy the many free BBQ areas for a cheap and fun day out. Kids in particular love a BBQ and a picnic, with a game of cricket or frisbee thrown in for some family fun.

For people visiting or living in Belconnen and Gungahlin there are dozens of BBQ areas in local reserves, by playgrounds, lakes and ovals to enjoy.

This list was compiled with the help of the Territory and Municipal Services website. They have a list of BBQs in operation and update their website with a Weekly BBQ Report. It is a handy report to check that your BBQ is operating before you go - especially if you are organising a big BBQ celebration.

Belconnen has 5 BBQs located at Diddams Close Pedestrian Parkland (2 in the East of the park, 3 in the West). This area is very peaceful with a playground, sandy beach, walkway with joggers going past and shady trees to sit under. On a beautiful day, this is a relaxing area to enjoy the company of your friends and family over a BBQ.

There are 5 BBQs at John Knight Memorial Park, another parkland closer to the town centre. We have often sat here and been visited by a resident pelican, so keep an eye on your lunch!

There are also 6 BBQs on the Lake Ginninderra Western Foreshore. With a playground and dog park nearby, this is also a popular location, not far from Diddams Close Parkland so you can visit both in the one trip.
