Grab the esky & the snags and have fun at the local park
As the weather warms up in Canberra, we can start to head outdoors and enjoy the many free BBQ areas for a cheap and fun day out. Kids in particular love a BBQ and a picnic, with a game of cricket or frisbee thrown in for some family fun.
For people visiting or living in Belconnen and Gungahlin there are dozens of BBQ areas in local reserves, by playgrounds, lakes and ovals to enjoy.
This list was compiled with the help of the Territory and Municipal Services website. They have a list of BBQs in operation and update their website with a Weekly BBQ Report. It is a handy report to check that your BBQ is operating before you go - especially if you are organising a big BBQ celebration.
BELCONNEN Belconnen has 5 BBQs located at Diddams Close Pedestrian Parkland (2 in the East of the park, 3 in the West). This area is very peaceful with a playground, sandy beach, walkway with joggers going past and shady trees to sit under. On a beautiful day, this is a relaxing area to enjoy the company of your friends and family over a BBQ.

There are also 6 BBQs on the Lake Ginninderra Western Foreshore. With a playground and dog park nearby, this is also a popular location, not far from Diddams Close Parkland so you can visit both in the one trip.
Gungahlin also has a long list of free BBQs in local parks and scenic spots to enjoy with your friends and family.
In Amaroo there is a BBQ facility in Bizant Street near to Yarrabi Pond District Park. Yarrabi Pond District Park is a popular area for families with 6 BBQs to use (4 undercover). There is a spectacular playground with flying fox, skateboard area, picnic areas and there are public toilets available. You could easily spend a number of hours here with plenty of room to spread out and entertainment for kids of all ages.
