Ice cream is a personal thing. If you ask five different people what their favourite flavour is, generally you will get five different answers. There are some ice creams that are just "yum" and others that make you say "OMG - this is amazing!" All of which leads us to the first category in this list of ice cream favourites.

OMG BEST ICE CREAM - FRUGII DESSERT LABORATORY, BRADDON**

Frugii Dessert Laboratory is in Lonsdale Street in Braddon, just minutes from the City Centre. Frugii is a local business started by John and Ed Marshall and became a well known fixture at the Old Bus Depot Markets for a number of years. By all reports there were queues (even in winter) for their unique flavours of ice cream so they decided to open up their own store in Braddon. Now open a year, this successful business run by Mr Frugii, as he is affectionally known, has become the "go to" place for delicious icecream in flavours that will surprise.

Have you tried Gingerbread ice cream or Beer flavoured ice cream? How about Butter Chicken or Laksa? It sounds bizarre, but once you have a Fruggi icecream it won't be your last - you will be back for more to try out new flavours which taste exactly the same as their name. Check their Facebook page throughout the year at festival time (particularly the Multicultural Festival and Black Truffle Festival) to see what delicious and unique flavours Frugii has invented. Special mention goes to #hungry_about_us ">Via Dolce in Bunda Street in the city, for their Italian gelato in a variety of well presented and delicious flavours. As you walk along Bunda street, it is hard to take your eyes off the ice cream display outside the café and rest assured, whatever flavour you decide on, it will be a winner.

Another special mention goes to Pure Gelato in the industrial suburb of Mitchell. Pure Gelato started out as a popular wholesale business before opening up their outlet in Mitchell. You can now visit their store and buy tubs to take home and try out their delicious flavours. Our family discovered their ice cream at the Australia Day celebrations at Commonwealth Park (2016) where they had a stall. Their Aussie flavours for the day included Pavlova, Tim Tam and the "OMG moment" for our family - Lamington gelato. All our eyes lit up in unison as "wow" was silently conveyed to one another. Since this experience we have been to their Mitchell outlet and tried some of their other flavours (tip - Christmas pudding gelato is another standout). There are 150 flavours to choose from, with 20 available each day to buy on a cone or in a cup.

BEST LOCATION - DOMS, QUEEN ELIZABETH TERRACE, PARKES

Doms Gelato on Lake Burley Griffin is literally metres from the lake. Situated under the International Flag Display on Queen Elizabeth Terrace, this little food outlet sells coffee, snack food and several flavours of gelato. Although the flavours are the basic favourites, they are all delicious and have the added bonus of enjoying it with a view. For a more detailed article on Dom's, see here .

Special mention also goes to Limeys Gelato at Westside Acton Village, a shipping container village on Lake Burley Griffin. Take your ice cream across the road and enjoy it by the lake (watch out for the swans) before returning to the village to try out some of the amazing food on offer out of the food trucks.

BEST OLD FASHIONED PARLOUR - STRIPEY SUNDAE, GOLD CREEK VILLAGE**

If you enjoy the quaintness of an old fashioned ice cream parlour, then Stripey Sundae in Gold Creek Village in Nicholls will be at the top of your list. This cute little parlour has a dozen flavours to choose from, cosy couches to chill out on (pardon the pun) and white tables and chairs to dine at. If you have young kids there is also a little kids corner to keep them entertained after they finish their ice cream. For a more detailed article on Stripey Sundae, see here .

Special mention also goes out to Goodberry's Frozen Custard in Erindale and Belconnen. Our family visited the Erindale store to celebrate a little friend's birthday and we found it to have an old fashioned, 1960's charm with a few booths to slide into. Goodberry's is also ideal for children as they can choose their own sundae toppings or choose from a variety of smoothies, cones, "concretes" and classics. Our frozen custards had us all sitting quietly at the table consumed with our sundaes and judging by the constant flow of people coming into the outlet, we weren't the only ones enjoying Goodberry's delights and take-home tubs.
