Get grocereies and gourmet goodies delivered to your door
As the effects of Covid-19 start to hit hard, the thought of heading to the supermarket is about as appealing as root canal. With long wait times, the pressure to brandish your trolley as a shield to keep people out of your personal space and the need to repress any cough or sneeze lest you be chased out of the store by a mask-wearing mob, shopping from home is an easier way to get your gourmet goodies. Canberra currently has a lot of choice if you're looking to do a full grocery shop, get some fresh food or just treat yourself to a hamper jammed with some (almost) essential survival treats.
The Long Track Pantry has long been a favourite of Canberra's foodies and the drive to Jugiong has become a well-worn trail. While heading there right now is off the cards, the good news is you can have hampers jam-packed with Long Track goodness delivered to your door. As well as the hampers, their amazing wine, cheese ready meals, cakes, cookies and condiments are available for online order and delivery too! They are currently delivering to Canberra once per week (Thursday).
Pialligo Estate Grocer
Pialligo Estate is best known as a place to sit and enjoy the food and the view. While the view can't be delivered, their amazing produce can. They have a range of grocery essentials including flour, mince, pasta, rice, bread, milk, eggs and even the much sought after toilet paper. Best of all there's a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and seafood. Their own range from the smokehouse is also available and if you want a bit of luxury, there's a range of ready meals including their scrumptious lamb shoulder and punchy curries. The service is contact-free: just place your order online then collect at Pialligo.
Possibly the most unexpected pandemic-pivot has been that of the Hotel Realm. Better known as a luxury place to stay, they've diversified into grocery boxes and themed food boxes. The choices range from fresh seasonal produce to pantry essentials. You can even choose a Netflix and Chill box full of movie snack (with an option to add pizzas from Ostani). Order from Ostani.
Wiffens is offering a click and collect service for fresh produce and pantry staples including milk, cream and butter, smallgoods, breads, cheese and eggs. If you need a lift, you can even order flowers. Order online by 10am for next day delivery or click and collect.
Ziggy's are offering a great selection of fruit and veg boxes packed full of the best seasonal produce. You can choose between five options and either collect on-site or opt for delivery.
While the shopfront is temporarily closed, fear not! You can head to the online store instead and have a hamper full of fabulous food and wine on the way in no time. Treat yourself and dine in style because staying home doesn't have to taste bad!
Red Baron in Symonston is offering a range of grocery boxes full of fresh produce, bread, pasta, muesli and coffee. With six options to choose from, you're bound to find something to keep the cupboards full.
The Cook Grocer is a hyper-local market supplying groceries, seasonal produce, and local and speciality gourmet products. They can prepare fruit boxes, health foods, jams and marmalades You can shop online but keep in mind that unless you live in postcode 2614 where they'll deliver, you'll need to drop in to collect.
As the pandemic wears on, more and more Canberra region businesses are pivoting into delivery and click and collect food services so this list isn't exhaustive but it's a good start if you want to support your favourite local businesses while getting some delicious food minus the fuss of heading out. Based on what I've ordered so far, I can promise you won't regret it (but your waistline might!).
