Canberra's climate means the winter is perfect to snuggle up and celebrate a second Christmas each year. This year, there are Christmas in July events aplenty so you can crank up some carols, put on an ugly jumper and experience the magic of a (not quite) white Christmas right here in the capital.
Christmas Markets
Christmas in July Festival
The
Christmas in July Festival is making its Canberra debut a year later than planned but it looks like an event not to be missed. Inspired by France's Christmas markets, this event comes complete with wooden chalets imported from Europe, melted cheese stations, French crepes, festive lights, Christmas carols, nutcrackers, French wines and even a mulled wine garden. Two giant nutcrackers will welcome you to a dazzling snow lane lined with real Christmas trees, lights and snowflakes drizzling from above. If you really want to level up, you can hire your own raclette igloo and feast on the cheesy treat in private. With cosy fire pits to toast marshmallows, this taste of European Christmas will warm up the Canberra winter.
Haig Park Markets Winter Wonderland
Haig Park Village Markets will be warming things up this winter with two
Winter Wonderland themed market days on 24 & 31 July 2022.
This magical winter experience will unfold under the pines of Haig Park to create the perfect Christmas atmosphere with fire pits, live music, mulled wine gardens, roving entertainment and winter themes creating a cosy escape from the Canberra chill.
Queanbeyan Christmas in July Market
Held on 9 July, the Queanbeyan Christmas in July Market has unique market stalls, hearty food and a whole lot of community love. Highlights of the Christmas in July market include Christmas-inspired food, gourmet treats and wine, and handmade Christmas gifts.
Winter German Market
Yes this one is actually in June, not July, but if you just can't wait you can head to the Harmonie German Club's
winter market . You'll find German food, homemade cakes, deli goods, groceries, wine, beer and schnapps. The sausage stall will be sizzling and there is free entertainment on the day.

here .
If you're happy to drive a little further, The
Christmas Barn in Bredbo is absolutely mind-blowing. The themed trees are bursting with detail, the shop 'elves' are eager to help and you can find Christmas treasures from all over the world. Its reopening each year coincides with the ski season so you can head south and stock up on Christmas cheer then head to the slopes for some snowy magic to complete the fun.

Gourmet Goodies**
If you want a table laden with traditional treats, there are plenty of local producers happy to help out. Pialligo Estate and Poachers Pantry offer locally prepared hams fit for any Christmas table. The season means Canberra's July Farmer's Market is bursting with those treats traditionally associated with Northern Hemisphere Christmas. You can even step it up a notch with some truffles which are available just in time for Christmas in July. If you're considering other ways to add some gourmet goodies to your Christmas in July table, Essential Ingredient in Kingston and Urban Providore is always laden with amazing options.
