Last Thursday, Palace Electric hosted a screening of "Embrace", a documentary by Taryn Brumfitt. In "Embrace" Taryn interviews a mix of ordinary people, celebrities and colleagues to discern the root of body image, eating disorders, and low self-esteem in women. She touches on the statistics that 90% of women are 'highly dissatisfied' with their bodies, how far people go to create the perfect body and the societal pressures that create this obsession. This film is an honest and insightful look into the struggles many women face, and the challenges we face as parents, humans and friends. Embrace flawlessly dissects society's idea of the 'perfect female figure' and the incredible lengths women go to in their quest to achieve it. In her funny, down to earth film, Brumfitt's manages to touch the entire audience and inspire them to embrace their bodies.

Brumfitt's organisation, The Body Image Movement is currently fundraising to develop an educational outreach program for Australian High Schools, which you can help fund by shopping the Embrace line at Birdsnest, online or in store.

The Body Image Movement also has a kick-ass blog full of body lovin' content and advice, including a parents guide!

If you missed this amazing event, fear not because Palace has another upcoming screening of the film, hosted by Canberra Wise Women. Get tickets at www.eventbrite.com
