Visiting one of the many wineries around Canberra is one of my favourite things to do and over the years I've discovered some absolute gems. I'm really proud of our local wine industry – not to mention the craft breweries and distilleries popping up around the joint – and can't help but feel a sense of pride when one of our locals picks up an award or gets a good wrap. For that reason, I've very pleased to welcome Canberra Wine and Spirit Merchants to Civic.

This smart little shop on City Walk (near the fountain outside the Canberra Centre) specialises in Canberra and regional wines, spirits, craft beers and ciders. It's all local, with wines from the Murrumbateman, Collector, Hall and surrounds.

It stocks all of my favourites (Helm, Lark Hill, Gallagher to name just a few) and then some and, having recently embarked on yet another local wine adventure, I know prices are pretty close to that at cellar door. No extravagant mark ups here, just a passionate small business owner who wants to showcase our best. I'm already thinking about Christmas presents for my interstate friends.

The store is open 7 days a week and there's a free tasting every Thursday evening (4-7pm). Follow them on Instagram and you'll receive 10 per cent off your first purchase until 6 July 2019.
