To really experience a walk in bird aviary is to get up close and personal to the beautiful colourful birds. At the you are guaranteed to get that "hands on" interaction directly, as you get up close and personal to the magnificent birds.



This aviary is like no other that I have ever been too. As you walk in you are welcomed by hundreds of birds flying all around you and coming all over you for a feed!



The aviary is set on a 1000sqm property, which makes it a dream come true for photographers and bird enthusiasts!

There are approximately 500 Australian and around the world birds, ranging from parrots, finches, doves to quails.



When you arrive to the aviary you are given a plastic plate filled with fruits to feed the birds, most of them do come up to you and sit on your arms, head and back- (the kids will love this).
You can purchase some mealworms (alive) to feed the birds – we did not as I am not a big fan of worms – especially when they are alive!



The entrance to the aviary is sort of hidden; we walked around for a couple of minutes to find it. It is right behind the Green Gold Garden Centre in O'Hanlon Place right near the car park.

On extreme hot days when the temperatures are above 32 degrees the birds are not really interactive as they normally are, so I suggest going when temperatures are less than 32 degrees to get the real hands on experience. (The aviary is closed when temperatures are over 35 degrees)



The aviary is located in the village of Gold Creek which is situated off the Barton Highway (road to Yass) in the northern suburb of Nicholls – it is approximately 20 minutes drive from Canberra City Centre.



It is really worth a day trip or weekend trip to Canberra to visit this amazing walk-in aviary and see the many wonderful and beautiful birds.
