On your mark, get set, go!

Back for the 37th year is The Canberra Times Fun Run, so get your sneakers on, running apparel on, and water bottles ready for a morning full of action with your adrenaline pumping, footsteps thumping, sweat dripping, and muscles aching. This year's event on Sunday September 8 2013 marks yet another celebratory day for the Canberra community as it welcomes the debut of the 14km Capital Run in addition to the existing 10km and 5km course.

Presented by the charity partner Heart Foundation ACT, The Canberra Times Fun Run aims to raise the much needed funds for more than 170 charities as well as the Warning Signs of Heart Attack campaign in the ACT. The Heart Foundation ACT is striving to raise $75,000 in order to reduce the number of tragic deaths from heart attacks by educating people about the warning signs and urging them to act quickly by calling triple zero. Become a Heart Hero Fundraiser today or choose your preferred cause by finding another charity.

Dating back to 1976, the first Canberra Times Fun Run was held to pay tribute to the newspaper's 50th anniversary with a 9.6km course. In 1986, the course became a certified 10km route. Now, you can choose from 3 courses: 14km, 10km and 5km. For those wanting to go the extra mile (or in this case, kilometres), go for the 14km run. When you're in pain and out of breath, just enjoy the iconic sights of the Parliament House, Federation Mall and Old Parliament House. The 10km scenic fun run begins at Yamba Drive in Phillip, meandering through streets of Canberra going past Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and culminating with stunning views of The Carillon on Aspen Island. Last but not least, the 5km fun run and walk goes past Lake Burley Gruffin and Duntroon Park concluding on the Rond Terraces in Commonwealth Park.

Events start at 8am, 8:30am and 9.30am for the 14km, 10km and 5km course respectively and anyone of any age and fitness level can enter; however this event is strictly for your feet only, i.e. no bicycles, scooters, hand cycles, skateboards or rollerblades. Entry fees start from $10 which includes your chest bib, bib tags, awesome runners guide, a copy of The Canberra Times and a flash finishers medal. Strollers, prams are allowed, but must start at the back of each event.
