A celebration of the Nara Canberra Sister City relationship
One of my favourite memories from visiting Japan this year was taking a trip to Nara to see the Fire Festival. On a cold winter evening every January, the people of Nara gather to watch the mountain grass being lit on fire! It is a spectacular event to watch, with the fire so big you can see it from anywhere within the city! It was such an amazing sight, and one I won't forget easily.
So I was very excited when I heard that every year Canberra holds a similar yet less electorate event called the Canberra Nara Candle Festival. The festival is held to celebrate the sister city relationship between the two cities of Nara and Canberra.
The event combines the spectacular visual of 2000 shimmering candles, with the amazing sounds of Japanese music and Japanese artistic pursuits including calligraphy, lantern making, origami, ikebana and kite flying. Also on offer at the festival will be Japanese cuisine, markets and stalls on offer.
The Canberra Nara Candle Festival promises to be a spectacular event in the beautiful Nara Peace Park & Lennox Gardens.
