A family friendly night celebrating Japanese culture
The Canberra Nara Candle Festival will be held on Saturday, 28th October between 4pm - 9pm at Lennox Gardens and Nara Peace Park, on Lake Burley Griffin. This popular annual event will celebrate the 24th year of the Sister City relationship shared between Canberra and Nara, Japan. The festival is based upon a much larger candle festival, known as the Nara 'Tokae', first held in Nara in 1999.

This family-friendly festival celebrates the Japanese culture with food stalls, Japanese music, entertainment, martial arts demonstrations, calligraphy, lantern making, origami, ikebana and kite flying. There will be plenty of activities for the kids to get "hands-on" with Japanese crafts. The centrepiece of the festival is a display of 2000 candles which are lit at dusk by festival volunteers. See the Events ACT website for more details.
