Up, up and away
Canberra's Balloon Spectacular is one of the world's premier ballooning attractions. Dozens of balloons gather at dawn on the lawns of Old Parliament House and take off one by one until all of them are floating in the gorgeous early-morning clouds.
It's a hugely popular event with good reason - it's simple enough for a toddler to love, and complex enough for an adult to be just as enthralled. It's very popular with families and even dogs, since no-one has to sit still or be quiet (although the toilet lines will be too long for some kids).
There are heaps of food stalls available, and so many balloons that it's easy to walk around and look closely at each one - even the infamous skywhale.
Balloons come from all around the world to take part, and there are some spectacular shapes on display. It is a free event and absolutely magical.
Call Canberra Connect at 6am each day (until 16 March 2014) on 13 22 81 to check weather conditions are good for flying.
