As Emma gets to know Jack more, their relationship empowers her to deal with her secrets and transform her life for the better. She gets to know Jack's secrets too and the importance of keeping someone's trust.
The film is in a similar vein to another Sophia Kinsella adapted movie Confessions of a Shopaholic from 2009 with Isla Fisher with an attractive cast and backdrop of New York.
There's also a good range of quirky characters around them at the office and as Emma's flatmates.
Laverne Cox, of Orange is the New Black fame, and a bomb expert in the latest Charlie's Angels film, is the acerbic but secretly kind-at-heart office manager. It's refreshing to see a transgender person in this key role and Cox is naturally funny and has some of the best lines.
There's also a nice relationship at the heart of the story between Emma and her best friend Lissy, played by Sunita Mani and Lissy's own secret that adds another depth to the story.
While Kimiko Glenn from Orange is the New Black and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse plays the more spiky, self-obsessed flatmate Gemma.
Although Can You Keep a Secret? is formulaic, it offers an attractive sparky romantic comedy for those that enjoy the genre. It gives you what it says on the tin and sometimes that is exactly what you want.
For those who got a kick out of rom-coms like Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Back-up Plan or 27 Dresses, this is a movie for you.
