Looking for a great beach camping site to take the family during the holidays? Noosa North Shore Beach Camp ground is the perfect place to get away from it all.
A two hour drive from Brisbane, leave the Bruce Highway at the Cooroy exit and travel through Tewantin. To reach the camp ground you take the car ferry over the Noosa River. After the ferry it is a short drive past the Noosa North Shore Resort to the much more basic but prime location of the beach camp ground.
After registering with the staff at reception, if you have booked an un-powered site you have a choice of areas in the park. These range from little alcoves tucked away in the trees to larger open areas just before the sand dunes. We were very lucky and found a private little area with a fantastic view of the beach.
The Beach here is part of the Cooloola Coast and stretches from Noosa to Double Island Point and up to Fraser Island. If you have a 4WD you can drive along the beach to Double Island Point where there is more beach camping. If planning to do this, make sure you come prepared with recovery gear. We sat on the beach near where the 4WDs left and entered and watched for a while. Getting stuck in the soft sand was very common, (and entertaining to watch).
There are no lifeguards on this beach. The closest patrolled beach is Noosa, not far to drive if you also want to experience the shopping, bars and restaurants. For us, though, we did not need more than what this camp ground provides. There are hot showers in the amenities block, coin operated washing machines and a kiosk if you forget any essential items. Make sure you bring enough drinking water and there are no wood fires allowed, only gas stoves.
This is a great camp ground if you are looking to relax, fish or drive along the stunning beach. For someone who has lived in London for the last seven years, this is what living in Queensland is all about.
