With longer days and warmer weather approaching, there is no better way than to spend the weekends exploring and experiencing the great outdoors and camping; from lush bushlands to beaches, there is a campground to suit all interests.

The list below includes the camping spots within a 3 hour drive from Sydney CBD, making it the perfect way to escape for the weekend and enjoy the tranquillity of the great outdoors.



1. The Basin
Where: Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, West Head Rd, Kur-ring-gai
Cost: From $34.85 per night
Distance from Sydney: 40km (Approx. 1hr drive)
Camping Site: Family-friendly, Unmarked, Unpowered, Tents only. Accommodates up to 400 campers.
Facilities: Amenities block, picnic tables, BBQ areas, drinking water, showers, toilets, and public phone.
Access: Ferry or water taxi from Palm Beach or by car- if you choose this option, there is a 2.8km steep walking track which leads to the campsite. (Ferry or water taxi is recommended, especially with kids)
Description: Located in the spectacular Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, this large grassy waterfront this campsite overlooks Pittwater. The campsite has top-notch facilities, a sheltered beach and an inland lagoon- perfect for the little ones. Click here for the website.

2.Cockatoo Island
Where: Cockatoo Island
Cost: Ranges from $45-$360 per night
Distance from Sydney: 30mins by ferry from Circular Quay
Camping Site: Romantic, Family-friendly, Tent camping (hire options), Glamping, Waterfront camping.
Facilities: Showers, toilets, BBQ areas, picnic areas, boiling water, fridges, microwaves, a vending machine, fire pit, and campground cinema.
Access: By ferry from Circular Quay only.
Description: Camping at the largest island in Sydney Harbour is a must-add to the bucket list! This campsite offers five camping packages with rich history and breathtaking views.

Camping Package- Pre-erected tent ready to go upon arrival

3. Bents Basin, Greendale
Where: Bents Basin National Park, Greendale
Cost: $8 per vehicle, per day entry fee to National Park. Campsites are $34.85 for up to 6 people.
Distance from Sydney: 67km approx. Just a little over 1-hour drive from Sydney CBD.
Camping Site: Family-friendly, Tents, caravans, camper trailers, unmarked sites
Facilities: Camp kitchen, parking next to your tent, trailer or caravan, amenities block with power, picnic tables, BBQ facilities, drinking water, public phone, hot showers, and toilets.
Access: By car.
Description: Within easy reach from Sydney, this open, grassy campground makes the perfect family-friendly or/and group camping. Towering trees surround campsites, and on the other side Bents Basin. There are bushwalks, lookouts, and water-based activities that can be enjoyed here, including fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Click here for the website.

4.Campsites at Bouddi National Park
Where: Bouddi National Park, Killcare
Cost: Putty Beach Campground- $8 per day/per vehicle fee- See website for each campsite pricing.
Distance from Sydney: 96km approx.- Just under 1 ½ drive
Camping Site: Beachfront camping, family-friendly, romantic,
Facilities: Picnic tables, BBQ areas, showers, toilets,
Access: By car, walking to the campsite from the carpark (Tallow Beach Campground)
Description: There are three campsites: Little Beach Campground, Putty Beach Campground and Tallow Beach Campground. With each campground offering something different.

Little Beach Campground: There are six campsites, and the campground is tucked into a pretty cove surrounded by lush rainforest. Activities that can be enjoyed here include water-based activities, including surfing and swimming, and several walks, including the Bouddi Coastal Walk. Click here for the website.

Putty Beach Campground:Putty Beach Campground features 20 campsites, and from the carpark is a short easy walk to your tent and is the biggest campground in Bouddi National Park. Activities near the campsite include bushwalking, water-based activities, including fishing, swimming, and sea kayaking, and the Gerrin Point Lookout. Click here for the website.

Tallow Beach Campground: This campsite is a remote campsite with access via a 1.2km walking track from the carpark. This quiet camping area accommodates only six tents and offers scenic seclusion and tranquillity surrounded by lush bushland and wildlife. Activities include water-based activities, including swimming, surfing and rock fishing, and bushwalking, including the Box Head Track and Flannel Flower Walking Track which leads to Lobster Beach. 5. Lane Cove Caravan Park
Where: Lane Cove National Park, 13 Plassey Rd, Macquarie Park
Cost: $8 entry fee per day/per vehicle- camping fees. See website.
Distance from Sydney: 16km approx.- between 16-25mins drive.
Camping Site: Family-friendly, tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravan camping,
Facilities: Children's play area, swimming pool, hot showers, toilets, free gas BBQs, TV & games room, amenities block, picnic tables, café/kiosk, camp kitchen, drinking water, public phone, electric power, and wireless internet. There are powered and non-powered sites.
Access: By car- all sites have the option to camp beside your vehicle.
Description: This caravan park is perfect for families with many family-friendly facilities. There are 206 campsites. The campsite is also home to uninterrupted views out across Lane Cove Valley. Click here for the website.



6. Glenworth Valley
Where: Glenworth Valley, 69 Cooks Rd, Glenworth Valley
Cost: Camping sites- Adults: $30pp per night, Children (7-17yrs): $15pp per night & Children under 7yrs: Free- Glamping & Eco-villas pricing ,see website
Distance from Sydney: 1hr drive from Sydney.
Camping Site: Bring your own tent, glamping and Eco-villas- all tent campsites are unpowered.
Facilities: Picnic areas, BBQ areas, hot showers, toilets, and campfire- Facilities for glamping and eco-villas-see website.
Access: By car.
Description: With 200 acres of secluded riverside camping on private land, this campsite is home to an abundance of free and ticketed activities, including horse riding, kayaking, quad biking, laser skirmish, axe throwing, pony rides, abseiling, bushwalks, and more. Click here for the website.



7. McNamara Rest Area
Where: 1273 Milbrodale Rd, Broke
Cost: Free
Distance from Sydney: Little over 2hrs drive from Sydney
Camping Site: Unpowered grassy flat sites- suitable for tent camping, campervans and caravans.
Facilities: Picnic tables and toilets.
Access: By car or a short walk from Broke General Store.
Description: This large campsite is surrounded by a bush and is looked after by the Singleton Council. Click here for the website.

8. Bendeela, Kangaroo Valley
Where: Bendeela Rd, Kangaroo Valley
Cost: $6 per site.
Distance from Sydney: 150km approx
Camping Site: Unpowered sites.
Facilities: Picnic area, toilets, wood, charcoal or solid fuel barbecues or cooking devices can be used- portable gas barbecues are permitted except during a total fire ban.
Access: By car- parking next to tent, caravan or campervan
Description: This popular campsite sits on the bend of a river and makes the perfect gateway to explore the spectacular Kangaroo River. Activities to enjoy include swimming, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, wildlife spotting (including wombats), and nearby attractions. Click here for the website.

9. Coolendel Campsite
Where: 1100 Grassy Gully Rd, Buangla

Distance from Sydney: Approx. 3hrs drive from Sydney

Camping Site: Huge grassy campsite, camping, glamping & cabins, suitable for tents, campervans, caravans, swags, and motorhomes.
Facilities: Hot showers, drinking water, camp kitchen, gas barbecues, waste disposal, toilets, volleyball court, general store selling ice, firewood, and other necessities.
Access: By car.
Description: With 52 acres of pristine bushland, including the Shoalhaven River and 130 acres of 'free range' camping, make the perActivities that can be enjoyed include wildlife spotting, canoeing (canoes can be hired), swimming in the cascades, campfires, bushwalks, and more. 10. Cattai Campground
Where: Cattai National Park, Arndells Trail, Cattai
Cost: $8 entry fee per vehicle/per day- Camping $24 per vehicle/per day.
Distance from Sydney: 70kms- Just over an hour drive
Camping Site: Tent, caravan, motorhome, campervan- camping next to your vehicle.
Facilities: Hot showers, toilets, BBQ areas, and amenities block
Access: By car- the last 200mins are by foot only.
