Live local music on Sydney Harbour's biggest island
If you haven't yet ventured onto the waters to reach Cockatoo island in Sydney Harbour, January is a good time to go. Every Saturday evening, the island will be privy to the warm and sultry notes or the dreamy pop melodies of some of Sydney's finest live performers.
And for only $25 a ticket, it's an affordable way to spend an unforgettable evening. The Campfire Sessions have been organised with the help of 505, a jazz music mecca in Sydney. Performers will include Ines, Alice Terry, Wartime Sweethearts and Darryl Beaton to name a few.
The sessions are scheduled to start at sunset (from 5.30pm), so you can optimise your acoustic music experience, or night of romance... The McIntosh & Bowman Cheesemongers will take care of your food and beverage supplies and you can pre-order the perfect accompaniment of wine and cheese paired by Claudia Bowman.
To reach the island, you can take a ferry or book a water taxi. If it is far away from home, make Cockatoo island your home for the night and pitch a tent in the campground for approx. $50. Or better yet, book one of theirs. Pre-erected dome tents for 2 people can be booked for approx. $109 per night. Check rates and availability online
The hardest decision will be to decide which night to go. Here is the official line-up: *drumroll*
06 January: Liz Martin with Dirk Kruithof and Alice Terry 13 January: Matilda Abraham and Wartime Sweethearts . 20 January: Darryl Beaton and Angelo Rosero Rosero (with Carlos Arango on guitar) 27 January: Ines and Lily Dior
