Camperdown Rest Park Newtown

Like most of Newtown’s best loved institutions, this park has that characteristic edge and a sense of urban cool. Combine this with convenience, space, greenery and escapism and you’ve got the perfect inner city park.
Just 2 blocks from King St, smack-bang in the middle behind the Dendy, Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is a local’s haven and a great place to enjoy King Street’s various take away food options and sit back with a coffee in the sun.
A large dog-friendly space and home to the annual and rather awesome Newtown Festival, Camperdown Rest Park runs along St. Stephen's Church, and just wandering along the solid sandstone walls is an experience in itself, with its eclectic stream of graffiti creating a mishmash of aesthetics, from the overtly political to the outright absurd.
With a recently renovated children’s playground it’s not just for the cool kids though, and one only has to come on a Saturday or Sunday morning to enjoy the mixed spectacle of families, dogs, frisbee throwers, and picnic goers. Everything from lone sandwich eaters, to sunbathers, and large groups of soccer players, Camperdown Rest Park caters for all, and you’ll always find a nice spot to soak up the sun or shelter under one of the various shady trees whilst still getting in the quintessential Newtown people-watching.
