It's got that community vibe that's so hard to find and, on any given day, there are plenty of people soaking in the sun or having a laugh. Uni students and locals mix together whilst the dogs try to befriend everyone.
A street back from Newtown's bustling King Street, this park is far from the grim nature its name might suggest complete with an awesome playground – naturally it's a favourite with kids, teenagers and adults alike. The park is a big space so a children's party can co-exist with a game of footy or dog walking. It doesn't matter that it's in the busy Inner West, either; there's a real feeling of peacefulness in the daytime.
But whilst it's quiet in the daytime, come the night, the party gets going. You can hear music blaring from the surrounding houses and the sound of excitable chatter from random groups. Guitars get brought out and impromptu jam sessions start up and you get the funky, lively atmosphere that Newtown's famous for.
If you're hungry, nearby King Street is great for a heap of restaurants and cafes. If it's entertainment you're after, Enmore Theatre isn't far for gigs or Kellys for kareoke and impromptu Irish music.
So, take a break, put on your thongs and head down to Camperdown Memorial Park.
