Campbelltown Miniature Railway is aptly named after their creators and lifelong owners, Colin and Nancy Campbelltown, now aged in their 80's, and continuing to welcome visitors through the front gates.
For Colin and Nancy, it started as an empty paddock in a farming area with not a tree on it. They planted 6,000 trees and with Colin's love of railway and tinkering, they began work on creating a miniature railway for their family and friends.
Over years, the railway got bigger and expenses for constructing, building, and general maintenance kept growing, so they opened to the public to help support the railway.
Unfortunately I have read some bad reviews on the railway, which I think are unjustified in my experience. Comments such as expensive, grumpy owners, no hill, lack of garden maintenance and so on.
We visited the railway on a wet day and we were the only people there. We chatted to Colin and Nancy for some time, finding out about the railway and how they still manage to do it all by themselves at their age? We found them to be lovely and engaging, and still have the same passion for the railway.
There are 2 tracks at Campbelltown, Boulder Mountain (no hill, just the name) is the smaller track and takes around 7 minutes and costs $4.50 per person with children under 3 Free
Cavalier track is the longer track (only runs when it's busy) and costs $6 per person with children under 3 Free.
I thought it was great value with our family of 6 riding the Boulder Mountain track for $18. (with 2 being free)
Our children loved the novelty of riding on the miniature train and can't wait to go back to ride on the Cavalier track.
For the miniature train enthusiast, take note of the attention to detail and cleanliness of the locomotives. Driven by a Holden red motor, the locomotive pictured is quiet and moves the long train without fuss.
