Go camping, have fun and help the Scouts !

Our two-day camping trip on the Sunshine Coast just got blasted by the recent devastating passage of cyclone Debbie and the closure of the National Parks. As the GPS says, we had to "recalculate" and find another option… then we came accros Camp Cooroora.

Situated on the northern shore of Lake McDonald between Cooroy and Noosa, this 33,000 square metre's block offers ideal camping sites with grass surrounded by trees.

Owned by the Scouts of Queensland, the site is managed by a very helpful couple who are always pleased to meet people and make their stay memorable. Yes once or twice they had to ask unpleasant people to leave in order to keep the place nice and quiet for all to enjoy even on busy periods such as Christmas or Easter holidays!

Made to accommodate up to 75 persons, Camp Cooroora has an impressive kitchen area with a six burner gas stove, big oven, a good size BBQ, two sinks and kitchen benches, two full size fridges and a freezer.

For the amenities, clean showers with hot water and normal house toilets. Note that the ladies room floor is being redone and should look spotless soon.

Activities : Lake McDonald is the Noosa drinking water reservoir and as such, swimming is forbidden but non fuelled crafts are welcomed and fishing is allowed, you can even buy a licence from the camp manager.

As it is also possible to book the whole camp for large events such as School Camps, big parties, weddings or the Scouts events, make sure you call ahead or book online in order to confirm Camp Cooroora is open for your journey.

Either you take your tent, camper or trailer, fees are 12 AUDppn for unpowered or 15 AUDppn for powered site.

TIP : About 2km from the camp, walking across the hatchery and water treatment plant you can enjoy the Noosa Botanic Garden, a FREE garden offering shady spots with benches, pic-nick shelters, public toilets, a Greek style amphitheater, a fernery, lili pond and an abundant variety of native and exotic plants. A relaxing walk in the winding paths of this calming 8 hectares sanctuary is all you need to reset your batteries. (Open 24/7)
