See the delightful camellias on show here
Most camellias, although a beautiful flower, do not have a scent. Camellias are cherished for their masses of delightful flowers and their evergreen leaves. They are one of the more popular plants that people grow.

There are many different types of camellias and although they are beautiful on their own, there is nothing nicer than a vase full of different coloured camellias or camellias with companion plants. They are a striking plant for outdoors, and some of them are even hardy in the winter time.

Now you can go to the Camellia, Garden and Floral Art Show which will be held from 17th to 18th August 2019. This will be held at the Mount Waverley Community Centre Complex, 47 Miller Crescent, Mount Waverley. The entry cost is $5.

This will be the largest of its kind in Victoria and will feature hundreds of varieties of camellias and floral art arrangements. There will also be some unusual home-grown fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, potted plants including bonsai, and a children's competition.

The event takes up the whole section of the Mount Waverley Community Centre. On the day, you can expect expert advice, camellia plants for sale, Devonshire teas, jam for sale, and floral posies made on the premises.

The show generally attracts people from metropolitan and regional Victoria as well as some from interstate. It is organised by the Waverley Garden Club and Camellias Victoria and has been going since 1972.

About Camellias
You need to know what makes a good flower in order to enter into an exhibition of this type. You also need to know how to show your camellias to their best advantage.

To grow show quality flowers you need to start at the end of one flowering season, in order to get ready for the next one! You need to prune the plants regularly, for if you let them go too long without, the flowers will suffer. Pruning generally is done around September which is before the plants start their new growth.

You also need to fertilise them regularly if you want flowers that are of show quality. These plants will also do well if you add a bit of extra potash in autumn. This will help with the colour and size of the actual flowers.

Some varieties of camellias are not frost hardy, so make sure you check out all the varieties and get one that is suitable for your area.

Nowadays the Japonica camellias are probably the most popular camellia grown. You can have some outstanding results with these if you learn about them before buying!

Don't miss this great event brought to you by Camellias Victoria.

Camellias Victoria Inc. was formed to bring together people who are interested in growing and learning about Camellias. You can join if you have an interest!
