Bypass Caloundra no more
If you usually bypass Caloundra when escaping north to the beach, you're missing out not only on some beautiful beaches and waterways but also some gorgeous cafes and homewares stores.

White Picket Fence cafe is on the top of this list. Set in a hacienda building that used to be a plant nursery, this eatery serves delicious all day brunch.

The spring hotcakes are almost too pretty to devour.

The "dippy eggs" come in the cutest ceramic dish. The kids will love them! Recently they've added "arvo tapas and booze" - maybe leave the kids with a sitter to enjoy these. Open daily for brunch and Thursday to Sunday for tapas, add White Picket Fence cafe to your must-do Caloundra list.

Keeping up the white theme, after brunch go further up Bulcock Street to browse at the gorgeous Whitepepper Homewares store.

Housed in a beautiful Art Deco building that had a previous life as a drapery, the store is flooded with natural light showcasing linens, ceramics, beauty products, children's clothing and giftware.

There are plenty of great cafes and eateries along Bulcock Street or the shores of Bulcock and Kings beaches. But for something quieter, head to the back streets of Caloundra for the oasis of Malarkey Artisan Coffee.

Step through the arch and choose a shady nook, then settle in to enjoy a signature coffee and bagel.

Another cafe found in the back streets, in fact, called One Block Back, is a hidden gem of the area.

Housed in another white building, an old warehouse, One Block Back serves all day breakfast and brunch and sells a range of plants and pots.

Its outdoor eating area adjoins a small forest so you feel like you're eating in the middle of the greenery.

While in the vicinity of Moffat Beach, check out another gorgeous store, Rust.

There is something for everyone, with men's and women's clothes, surfboards and homewares. Rust houses a curated selection of Australian surf craft, fashion, art and homewares including works of local ceramicists.

After a browse at Rust and an afternoon swim at Kings or Bulcock Beach, you'll need treats for the drive home. Stop off at The Pastry Lab under the Aspect block of units in the Happy Valley area, for top quality French pastries, cakes and tarts. Another hidden gem!

White picket fence is a real star in Caloundra with a great menu but I didnt know about the others, particularly the homewares stores. Great for beach goers to stop and shop.
