History records Caligula as a madman, a monster, but was he?

Red Phoenix Theatre, Adelaide's premiere theatre company, is launching their 2018 program with Nobel Prize-winning writer Albert Camus' most popular play, CALIGULA

The strictly limited season will run from May 24 to June 2 at Holden Street Theatres. Tickets are now on sale.

Following their critically acclaimed and award-winning 2017 season, Red Phoenix Theatre is excited to stage CALIGULA, a spellbinding production, brimming with a delightful mix of horror, intrigue and liberal splashes of rich dark comedy.

In this darkly comic drama, the charismatic but dangerously unpredictable Roman Emperor tries to understand the meaning of life. But not all goes well for those around him!

After the death of his beloved sister, Caligula deserts the Roman Assembly for three days and nights. During his absence, he imagines a perverse campaign of murder and horror in a quest to discover personal freedom and happiness.

"Why should I aspire merely to be the equal of god?" asks Caligula.

History records Caligula as a madman, a monster, but was he? Come along and decide for yourself.

This crackerjack translation by Scottish playwright, David Greig played to rave reviews on London's West End.

CALIGULA is directed by Michael Eustice and features an outstanding cast of Adelaide actors including Adrian Barnes, Robert Bell, Joshua Coldwell, Brant Eustice, Ruby Faith, David Grybowski, David Lockwood, Mark Mulders, John Rosen, Malcolm Walton, Tracey Walker and Lyn Wilson.

CALIGULA plays at The Studio - Holden Street Theatres (The Home of Great Theatre), 34 Holden Street, Hindmarsh on May 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 31st and June 1st, 2nd at 7.30pm. Matinee Sunday May 27th at 2.00pm.
