Visions of sugar plums dance in your head

This week I was very fortunate to attend a delightful Christmas event at Cakes by JudyC at Ashgrove. With the red carpet rolled out, fresh flowers on tables, a very talented harpist and chilled champagne the scene was set for a very pleasant evening!

The cake shop is subtly decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations and when the stars of the show (delectable little Christmas treats) came out, visions of sugar plums danced in my head! A sugar plum was, in fact, the first Christmas treat I sampled and from there, there was no going back! These little pink balls of pure delight were a new experience for me, never having had the pleasure of eating one before. So what is a sugar plum? At Cakes by JudyC a sugar plum is made with white chocolate mud cake, white chocolate ganache, Galliano and raspberry jelly crystals - say no more! Beaten only in popularity by Judy's fruit mince tarts, those sugar plums were a real hit!

Next came the rum balls and these were definitely the deluxe version. Made with chocolate mud cake, chocolate ganache and only the best rum these were smooth and creamy and very moorish. Tiny Christmas cupcakes and gingerbread men followed, both tasting very much like Christmas.

The first batch of Judy's famous fruit mince tarts well and truly heralded the festive season. Crispy light pastry was filled with fruit mince that was heavenly - probably due to the fact that the fruit had been soaking in sherry since July! This event also saw the first flamed Christmas Pudding for 2014 unwrapped. This is no ordinary pudding. Made from a recipe (thought to be approximately 134 years old!) handed down from Judy's great, great Nan, it was unbelievably rich and full of sherry-soaked fruit, bringing back memories of Christmases passed.

If Christmas sneaks up on you this year before you have time to make the all important Christmas cake, Cakes by JudyC can help you out. From yet another family recipe (this time from Judy's grandmother) and also containing sherry-soaked fruit, comes a very popular Christmas cake.

Coming from a family of cake makers, it's no surprise that Judy is well known for her beautiful creations and whilst the Christmas range is very special, there's so much more to delight you and your tastebuds here. Pop in for a smooth coffee and something to eat - savoury or sweet - and check out the full range at Cakes by JudyC. With special occasion cakes, muffins, quiches, cupcakes, slices, whoopie pies, biscuits, cotton candy cakes and more, there's something to tempt everyone. With gluten free and dairy free options, nobody misses out!

Why not lighten the load this year and take advantage of the amazing Christmas range available at Cakes by JudyC, where they have Christmas all wrapped up!

The gingerbread men look really nice. I like their simplicity.
