I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Reece Hignell of
MasterChef fame has
recently launched his first cookbook much to the delight of his many fans. The collection of classic bakes was inspired by and dedicated to his nan Heather Bates, who was well-known in the Warners Bay Area for her baking prowess. The book is broken up into seven chapters - Basic Bakes, Classic Cakes, Superior Sponge Cakes, Premier Pastries, Sensational Scones, Biscuits and Slices, Yeast Bakes and Inclusive Bakes - which contains recipes that are vegan friend/or gluten free.

The 168-page book contains sixty detailed recipes of old school Australian delights such as Jam Drops (page 118), traditional sponge cakes (page 63) and ANZAC biscuits (page 111) as well as Reece's famous signature Lemon Tart (page 97). There are photographs of the desired finished products, tips and tricks, stories related to each recipe and a comprehensive index. Many recipes have been adapted from his Nan's handwritten book and others have been gifted to him by friends, make sure you read the anecdote (in italics) at the start of each recipe for insight.
