After the closure of their Lake Street venue, the
Cairns Dinner Theatre has reopened inside the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino. The new venue is on a much grander scale, with more seating available, and with shows making use of the second story balcony visible to the audience. The plush new theatre with its sleek bar provides a greater sense of ambience than that of their previous location.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing their Friday/Saturday show Jury Duty, an interactive court themed experience where the audience becomes the Jury. At my table, we also had the experience of transforming into the courtroom artist (we were provided with a notebook and coloured pencils, and instructed to draw). Other audience members were asked to take the stand as witnesses or to cry on cue as victims in different cases. The show was well cast, and the actors were skilled in encouraging audience involvement.
Along with the show, we received a three-course meal, with two options available for each course. The portion sizes were satisfying, and the overall quality of the food was good. You can view the show's menu
here. Breaks in the show while food is being served give you the chance to interact with those accompanying you, giving the evening a nice balance between live entertainment and social interaction. All in all a fun and relaxing night.
