Experience contemporary art by one of the most innovative and extraordinary global artists of our age, Cai Guo-Qiang, a Chinese contemporary artist and curator. This is an artist who has had people lined up all the way down the street to see his exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York.

Currently living and working in New York City, Cai is an internationally celebrated artist who has held various exhibitions around the world over the past 25 years including Qatar, Los Angeles, Venice, Rio de Janeiro as well as solo exhibitions at Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York, the world's most renowned art institutions.

Between Saturday 23 November 2013 and Sunday 11 May 2014, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) will present Cai Guo-Qiang's first solo exhibition in Australia, Falling Back to Earth. This is to be the biggest single artist project GOMA has ever done.

Among the three big projects featured across the whole of the ground floor include two newly commissioned works created especially for GOMA which have been inspired by Cai's travels in southeast Queensland in 2011.

Heritage 2013, the centrepiece of the exhibition, showcases 99 replicas of animals around the world such as pandas, tigers and kangaroos gathering around a lake all drinking together. The blue lake surrounded by perfect white sand is reminiscent of the islands of Brisbane's Moreton Bay.

Eucalyptus 2013 is the second installation inspired by the ancient trees of Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast hinterland. Featuring a gigantic tree along GOMA's central Long Gallery, Cai's work will blow you away with his creation.

The third installation, Head On 2006, will see sculptures of 99 life-size wolves leaping altogether head on into a glass wall. Appearing in Australia for the first time, come and admire the tragedy and beauty of these wolves charging forward relentlessly symbolising the determination to press on.

This exhibition takes a look at our relationship with the environment and with each other and guarantees to be breathtaking, captivating and thought-provoking.

To coincide with Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth, an interactive exhibition for children called Cai Guo-Qiang Kids: Let's Create an Exhibition with a Boy Named Cai will also take place at Children's Art Centre during this time. Here, young visitors are able to let their imagination run wild and create their own exhibition whilst learning about and engaging in Cai's working methods.

Be innovative and produce objects to display in miniature gallery spaces, be creative and make stunning multimedia gunpowder drawings and explosion events, and be inspired by the short animated movie about Cai Guo-Qiang's art and journey.

Tickets to Cai Guo-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth start from $9.50 and children who are 12 years old and under are free. Admission to Cai Guo-Qiang Kids: Let's Create an Exhibition with a Boy Named Cai is free and is a must visit for those with young ones.
