The Caffe Primo at Mawson Lakes is part of a chain of restaurants around Adelaide that serve Australian cuisine. We tend to eat at the branch located at Mawson Lakes as it is closest to where we live and it has an ample amount of free parking near the restaurant.
Caffe Primo serves a wide variety of Australian cuisine, pizza, pasta and a few dishes inspired by Asian cuisine. We had chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce, Amatriciana and pollo peperonata. The pollo peperonata consisted of juicy pieces of grilled chicken with mashed potato topped with a roasted capsicum sauce. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the roasted capsicum sauce was a perfect accompaniment to the chicken and mash potato.
The chicken schnitzel is served with fries and your choice of Diane sauce, mushroom sauce, pepper sauce, garlic sauce or gravy. We always choose the pepper sauce as it has the right peppery zing and is not too creamy. Both the fries and chicken schnitzel were nicely cooked, with the crisp coating of the chicken schnitzel contrasting nicely with the meat. Both the chicken schnitzel and pollo peperonata came with a fresh and crisp vegetable salad that added a refreshing taste to the two dishes. It also had the right quantity of dressing so that the vegetables were not swamped by it.
Amatriciana is one of the many pasta dishes and the pasta options include spaghetti, fettuccine and penne (which look a bit like angular tubes). Amatriciana features bacon, onion, basil and spring onion in a napolitana sauce slightly flavoured with chilli. We ordered it made with the penne pasta which was cooked just right and the Amatriciana sauce was a good complement to the dish.
One of the best things about Caffe Primo is that they offer a complimentary pancake with your main dinner meal. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the cream and maple syrup served with them complemented them perfectly.
