An artist and freelance writer, I enjoy exploring the city with my children and the never ending quest for great coffee.

A couple of years ago my son went on a trip to Italy. When he returned, his fondest memory of Italy was the amazing gelati in a myriad of colourful flavours that was found in every piazza. I am pleased to announce that Australians no longer need to travel to Italy to enjoy amazing gelati, because I have found the authentic Italian ice cream right here in Brisbane.
Caffe e Gelato Milany at 53 Racecourse Road, Hamilton is the place to go. Milany offers 38 different flavours of gelati, made fresh on the premises, and displayed in awe inspiring mountains of creamy swirls. Along with the traditional flavours of lemon and blood orange, there are treats for chocolate lovers including Ferrero Rocher, Turkish Delight and a rich dark chocolate. Fans of fruity flavours are spoilt for choice as well with mango, banana, peach and strawberry, just to name a few.
If you still have any doubts about how good this gelato is, you just need to look at the numerous awards that cover their walls.
Gelati comes in the standard single a double cones, but there is also an entire menu of amazing gelati treats. These included Death by Chocolate, Pizza and Spaghetti Carbonara, all made from gelati, with maybe just a little fruit or cream to decorate.
Your choices at Caffe e Gelato Milany aren't limited to the delicious gelato. The smell of coffee and freshly made waffles greets you as soon as you open the doors. Our coffee was well made and delicious, but we were a little disappointed that the mug size coffee was in a take-away cup when we were sitting in the cafe.
I love that Milany is open until 10pm six nights a week, so you can take the children there for an after school treat or treat yourself to a late night grown up indulgence. Enjoy!
