Caffe Dante is a cosy café located on the first floor of the MidCity Centre shopping centre, overlooking George Street in Sydney's CBD. You can access it from escalators in George Street, or you can walk through from the Pitt Street entrance and you will find it on the other side of the hugeUNIQLO clothing store. It offers modern Italian cuisine and is open for breakfast and lunch, 7 days a week.
My family discovered this welcoming café on a cold winter's morning, whilst staying at the Swissôtel Sydney nearby. We were looking for somewhere to have a cosy, tasty breakfast and we were even happier when we discovered that this café had a view. For tourists like us, we were happy to take a seat and watch the city wake up below...

The breakfast menu had a wide range of reasonably-priced options to choose from (between $5 and $21), and there was another menu just for healthy smoothies and juices. If you had a hankering for something sweet, they offer Pancakes with caramelised banana and pistachio crumble, or if you love a hearty, healthy breakfast they also had Zucchini and Corn Fitter Balls, Paleo Yoghurt and a Green Brekkie Bowl - just to name a few.
On our visit, I was the hungriest, so I couldn't go past the Grilled Haloumi Stack, while my family chose the Brekky Wrap and Raisin Toast (a favourite of my young daughter). While we waited, we sipped on our Campos coffees and milkshake and relaxed, before a big morning of shopping ahead!

The Grilled Haloumi Stack was an impressive, towering surprise when it arrived at the table and when I dug into it, it tasted as good as it looked. All the flavours married together perfectly and the two poached eggs and quinoa made it so filling, that I couldn't finish it - which was a surprise! I would easily order it again if I visited Sydney regularly.
The Brekky Wrap had a homemade relish inside, which unfortunately was too chilli-hot for our taste - however, if you enjoy a bit of chilli to start your day, then this wrap is guaranteed to wake you up!
Grilled Haloumi Stack with poached eggs, grilled haloumi, avocado, rocket, grilled cherry tomatoes, quinoa, basil pesto and lemon aioli ($17) and Brekky Wrap with two fried eggs, eye bacon and home-made relish ($12.90)
Caffe Dante was a pleasant discovery on our trip to Sydney, with a cosy atmosphere and a location that was perfect for exploring. From our vantage point near the window we could check out which stores we wanted to visit on George Street and we were also looking forward to looking inside UNIQLO, which had streams of people coming up the escalators to visit it.
If you are in the city centre and are looking for a quiet place to escape for a coffee, breakfast or lunch, then check out Caffe Dante - it will give you the energy boost to keep shopping...
