is a popular café franchise, with 50 outlets around Australia - including 9 in the ACT. Everywhere you look around Canberra a new one has opened up and it is full of happy locals - all eager to find a seat and relax in their colourful surroundings.
So why are they so popular? It appears that their cheerful décor, large food servings, big mugs of coffee and delicious cake options have struck a chord with people all around the country. These popular cafes are also found in local shopping centres, so they are a handy location for having a quick bite to eat or for catching up with friends - without having to travel to the city for a good cafe experience.
The latest to open in Canberra is in the new
Monaro Mall , above the
beauty precinct in the Canberra Centre. This new café and section of the mall opened less than a week ago, at the time of writing, with the doing a roaring trade ever since - and it isn't hard to see why!
Although the new Monaro Mall outlet looks modern and inviting, there is something very welcoming about walking into
all of outlets. Their previous outlets are more colourful, with soft cushions and a "homely" feel - which make you feel relaxed as soon as you pull up a chair. Many of the outlets in Canberra are also located near playgrounds or indoor play centres, making them a family friendly place to stop for a coffee or a snack with the kids. These particular cafes are located at the
Canberra Outlet Centre (opposite Monkey Mania),
Majura Park shopping centre (opposite Lollypops Playland) and
Woden Westfield shopping centre (behind the Kids Club).
Other locations are
Gungahlin ,
Casey and
Belconnen in the north and
Erindale and
Tuggeranong in the south. Whichever one you choose you will get the same friendly service, tasty menu and comfortable, modern surroundings.
Their menu is fresh and inviting, with a tempting display of cakes in the cabinets and delicious meals on their extensive menu. Their All-day Breakfast Menu includes Bacon and Egg rolls, a variety of eggs on toast, French toast, pancakes, omelettes,
Breakfast, Ultimate Big Breakfast and
Alex's Breakfast - all ranging between $7.90 and $20.50. Lunch also has a wide range of tasty options such as burgers, toasted sandwiches, melts, Fish and Chips, Chicken Parmigiana, Fisherman's Basket and salads ranging between $9.90 and $18.50.
On our family's last visit to at Tuggeranong Hyperdome, we arrived early on a Sunday morning to relax with a filling breakfast, before the centre got too busy with weekend shoppers. We have been to this café a few times before and have always been happy with the friendly delivery of the food, large servings and family-friendly atmosphere. It is conveniently located opposite both
K-Mart and
Coles, which both open early, so you can have a quiet weekend breakfast before popping into one, or both, to pick up what you need.
Although Canberra may be renowned for its café strips on
Lonsdale Street ,
Bunda Street and the
Kingston Foreshore , sometimes it is easier to visit a café a little closer to home. With 9 outlets scattered all around the city and suburbs, there is now a located near every resident and visitor to Canberra. With such an extensive menu, you could easily return time and time again to try something new every visit. Each time we stop at one of their cafes we always get "table envy" at the meals that are delivered to the other tables - with Eggs Benedict on the top of the list for our next visit!
Although the meals are good value and delicious, sometimes there is nothing better than to rest your feet and enjoy a cuppa and a caramel slice...
