It was hard not to notice when opened up across the road from the Bassendean Train Station in December 2017. What had once been an old house on the side of a street corner was suddenly transformed into a cafe with big windows and tables and chairs placed out the front.
is open Monday to Friday from 6.00am to 4.00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7.00am to 3.00pm. They sell hot and cold drinks, sweet and savoury snacks, and serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. In the short time, they have been open they have become quite popular among the people in the local community and have amassed a number of positive reviews online.
has indoor and outdoor seating. The interior of the shop has an artistic vibe to it. There are posters on the walls, art from local artists on display and a few odd bits and pieces like a typewriter in one corner and an old-fashioned phone hanging off the wall behind the front counter.
has an impressive range of biscuits and home-made cakes on display in and on top of a glass cabinet. There are Anzac Biscuits, Protein Balls, Carrot Cake, Baked Cheesecake, muffins and more.
When I visited, I got a cup of coffee for $4 and a plate of blueberry and coconut pancakes with mascarpone cheese and nuts for $14. My little girl got a babyccino and my husband got a ham and cheese toasted croissant for $7.
It didn't take very long for us to have our food brought out to us which I was happy about. The ham and cheese toasted croissant was a good size and nicely toasted and my little girl loved her babyccino and Vegemite toast.
My pancakes were a modest-size and were sitting in a thick sauce. The pancakes were white and fluffy and had been dusted with icing sugar, a handful of blueberries, a scoop of mascarpone and some strawberry slices. The sauce was thick and had a strong caramel flavour and complemented the pancakes well. The whole dish was on the sweet side, but it wasn't too overpowering, so I enjoyed it a lot.
is a great new addition to the town of Bassendean. If you live in the area and haven't tried it yet I definitely suggest you give this place a try.
