Situated in Perth's northern suburbs, Mindarie Marina received a fantastic facelift in 2006 that saw the welcome addition of numerous eateries and drinking establishments. Today, the marina not only provides a great place for dining options, but also hosts a number of fantastic events throughout the year that bring the crowds flooding in, such as the annual Mindarie Festival and the fabulous food and drink festival; Toast to the Coast.
If you're in the area and need some inspiration of where to go at the Marina; read on.
The Dome Perfect spot for a family brunch or breakfast as well as a great location for a coffee anytime of the day. Sit out at the front of the restaurant and you'll be rewarded with a great vista of the Mindarie Marina. Sit out back and bring the kids and you can keep them entertained with the enclosed colourful play ground.
The Waterfront This is the newest addition to the Mindarie Marina family and is a great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. From the outside tables you have a great vantage point to watch the boats come and go in the marina as well as spotting the occasional dolphin. The menu is Australian and European fusion with a great children's menu surprisingly serving more than the standard chicken nuggets and chips. For breakfast, my money is on the American Breakfast ($15.50) or pancakes ($12) both topped with maple syrup; delicious.
Fabulous view from the Waterfront Cafe and Restaurant.
The Indian Ocean Brewing Company Definitely the place to head towards if you're in the mood for a delicious handcrafted award winning beer. The Indi was added to the Marina as part of the facelift in 2006, and has been delighting its customers ever since. A sure fire hit in the summer, where you can take your beverage out into the expansive beer garden, and an equally popular place in the Winter where you try to get in early to secure a spot by the warmth of the fire. There's a special offer almost every night of the week, and the cheap Tuesday's pizza have commanded a loyal following. A great place to check out for a night out of food and drink.
The Boat, Fish, Ale and Tea House If you're not fussed on whether your beer wins prizes, then head to The Boat where you can still enjoy yourself, and take in the regular free live music and party atmosphere. Family friendly until about 7pm most nights, with a free kid zone set up on Mon-Weds from 5-7pm and again on Sunday from 2-6pm. Fish and chips is the speciality here and for $21 you'll get a huge portion that you could easily share with your dining companion. The roast beef lunch ($25) on a Sunday should really also get a mention if you're not fancying cooking your own.
The Boat - something of a live music entertainment hub in Perth's North.
If you've left any room for dessert, then head to this ice cream shop for a tasty treat. There's a great range of chilled desserts but the sundaes are my choice every time. They've recently started doing a pancake breakfast, and this is a budget friendly breakfast option for kids (under $5).
Need another reason to visit Mindarie Marina, then check out the range of events on throughout the year.
It's not just about the food; some great buys can be found at the weekend market stalls.
