There's so much to explore in Far North Queensland that you won't know where to look but it turns out there's a good few treats for your taste buds around as well. Here's a list of some of our favourite cafes, restaurants and bars from our month in FNQ.

N17 Burgers . Port Douglas. This late night burger bar has a lot more than just burgers on the menu. And they are open from 10am until well past bed time. It seems like no matter what time of the day or night you fancy a tasty treat in Port Douglas these guys are open to serve you something delicious. All the meat is locally sourced and the beer they serve is brewed in Cairns.

Strait on the Beach - Cairns - Holloways Beach - 15 min drive from the city - There are very few cafes and restaurants that can boast that they are directly on the beach in Australia. However Strait on the Beach, as you may have guessed from the name, can make that bold claim. The burgers and sandwiches are very hefty and the coffee is good too.

Rusty's Markets - Cairns. In the City - Fridays to Sunday - for your fresh fruit and veg, cake needs and to grab a quick but delicious bite. Around lunch times they have buskers on the stage by the food trucks which is a nice touch.

Piato Restaurant . Cairns. Local seafood by the harbour served by friendly staff - I recommend the seafood platter as everything on the menu looks so good and that way you get to taste it all. The mussels came in a creamy sauce and the grilled swordfish was the best I've had.

Happy 4 10. Cairns. Sushi and Korean. They have a $10 lunch menu which is always good to find. The restaurant is mostly outdoors but is undercover with tropical plants, palm trees and bright paintings on the courtyard walls giving it a friendly, relaxed vibe. The teriyaki chicken was really tasty.

Movenpick Ice Cream . Cairns. If you don't know which flavour to go for they let you taste a few before committing. Sadly, those tasters are on plastic spoons, though. As well as ice cream they have some fancy, more elaborate dessert options that will have you snapping a pic before your first bite.

Cakes Annie Time . Cairns. This lovely little cake shop is right in the city between a pub and a bike hire shop but as soon as you walk in you can easily forget that. The coffee was great and you are spoilt for choice with cupcake options.

The Chicken Shed. Cairns. Located in Rusty's Market this was one of my favourite meals in Cairns. Make sure you go Friday, Saturday or Sunday as they are only open three days a week. Having pretty much sampled the whole menu I can recommend the chicken burger and the tacos. The fries are good and salty, just as they should be. If you get there early enough they do a breakfast menu as well.

Barr Street Markets. Cairns. This place is absolute health food heaven. Even just stepping through the sliding glass doors made me want to go for a run, eat healthier and generally be a better person. As well as stocking up on your health food and eco household items such as bamboo toothbrushes and organic undies, there are a few restaurants in there was well.

Fusion Art Bar and Tapas . Cairns. You can feel the passion and love that has been poured into this restaurant and gallery. The menu spoils you for choice but as it is tapas style you can keep ordering. Make sure you leave room for something sweet.

Jimmy Rum's Mixing Lounge[/LINK]. Port Douglas. Push the door open and you'll find the cool kids of Port Douglas hanging out here. There are low comfy chairs to sit on or the option of sitting at the bar where you can see the cocktail waiters working their magic. The service is brilliant and each cocktail is like a work of art.

Nautilus . Port Douglas. There are a few fancy restaurants in town and our "treat yourself" meal was here. It cost us nearly a week's travel budget but we have no regrets. If you can't decide what to have they have a tasting menu so you can stop agonising over what to order and have small plates of most of the menu. The intimate, tropical setting is like something out of a movie.

Watergate. Port Douglas. This is another of the high end restaurants in the holiday town of Port Douglas. The staff were lovely and at $10 for an espresso martini at happy hour (between 5 and 6) you can't go wrong.

Happy travels.
