Working in the travel industry & having shared some of my overseas adventures in the blogging world, I look forward to also sharing my experiences of what Brisbane & it's surrounds have to offer.

My quiet local wine bar secret I'm willing to share
Tapas – smaller dishes of shared plate dining that are designed to encourage conversation due to not having to focus on one large meal. Teamed with a small but dynamic wine list and choice of boutique and standard beers, fantastic service and great company and you have the makings of an enjoyable evening out which is exactly what this venue delivered on a recent visit.
Cafeine has been a popular breakfast and lunch cafe in Coorparoo for the past few years but come Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, it is transformed into a stylish and intimate wine and tapas bar.
Our experience of their wonderful service started with us making a group booking for 18 and deciding on a menu. They were able to cater for whatever we required, so we agreed on a price and left it to their chef to decide on the menu.
In addition to the food, what made the evening for us was the exemplary service and attention from their staff member Steve who looked after us. Having stopped in here for the odd glass of wine or two over the past few months, I was first impressed when he remembered what wine I enjoyed on a visit two weeks previously.
He has knowledge of the wines on offer and is always ready to offer a suggestion if needed. What blew us away was that when we arrived, he offered separate bills for each of the nine couples – we didn't even have to ask. Each couple was given a number and as the food price was already pre-arranged, each drink was put on that particular account – no fuss and easily done. This is something a lot of other restaurants need to consider and Cafeine handled this very well. We also had one member of our group who had a particular dietary requirement – easily fixed and a slightly different course was arranged to be served. When our glasses were empty, he was there by our side ready to offer another drink if required.
We had a variety of courses, starting with bread and three dips (beetroot, olive & pesto), warm olives, bruschetta, salt and pepper calamari, whiting fillets, spring rolls and more.
The menu changes from time to time, but they presently have the following on the menu in addition to what we enjoyed.
Potato Croquette with saffron aioli
Pumpkin, blue cheese & pinenut salad Porcini mushroom arancini with tomato chilli chutney
Smoked salmon with celeriac remolard & rocket salad
Homemade meatballs with a smokey tomato relish
The menu items range between $9 - $18 and the drinks are really well priced. With their variety on offer, Cafeine would also probably be a good choice for vegetarians.
I can honestly say that the service here was some of the best and most efficient I have ever had without being over the top and the food was really enjoyable. The only thing that worries me is that now the secret's out and I've told you how good it is I may not be able to get a table when I want one.
