Located, somehow quietly, next to Erskinville train station is the lovely Cafe Sofia. This is the place you take your mum when she comes to visit. It contains a few trendies - so she understands why you brutally left her for the big city. But it isn't overly loud, or uncomfortably cool, so she doesn't worry that her coffee could get roofied.

The rear courtyard is the best place to be. There are many plants and few people. The staff in this section are equally as scarce. This, if they were like the gods at Luxe Cafe And Bakery , would be more of a tragedy. In this setting however, it's fine.

The reason one would trek all the way out to Erskinville is the coffee. Teaming with cafes, Erskinville generally has pretty good coffee, and cafe Sofia is well above the curve. Come for the coffee. Stay for the coffee.

Food-wise it's okay, but a word of warning; many things you wouldn't expect (tomato, avocado and feta on toast for example) come with dressing. And the dressings change. One time I got this fantastic oil and lemon dressing. The next time, I got something with mustard in it. If you want to eat here, ask for the dressing on the side.

3 Sneaky Hats.
