I think I've mentioned before just how lucky I think you south-east Brisbane peeps are when it comes to dining. Cafe O-Mai is yet another absolute pearler of a local cafe!

Hidden in a row of old shops on Cracknell Road, to look at, Cafe O-Mai is nothing all that flash. But as they say if it ain't broke don't fix it and the quality of the food served at this establishment definitely does all the talking.

The order of the day is tasty Vietnamese cuisine and, if you're a first timer to the cafe, I cannot recommend their Bahn Mi enough. They are delicious!

We've been on a few occasions now though and decided it was high time we branched out into something a bit more adventurous. We started out with a serve of steamed dim sims to share, and I have to say that I think they are some of the nicest I've ever tried - beautifully flavoured and with such delicately light pastry they were a real pleasure to eat. That didn't stop me from having complete food envy on the spring rolls at the next table though..next time!

It was a cold, wet Saturday when we went so I couldn't think of a better meal choice than a traditional Pho soup. I opted for the free range chicken version. The broth was full flavoured and came with the option to customise to your own tastes with a selection of bean sprouts, Vietnamese mint and lemon on the side. Very enjoyable but I'm a bit of a spice fiend so I think next time I'll be asking for some chilli on the side as well!

My partner went for the Vietnamese Chicken Curry, which was also super tasty and served with your choice of vermicelli noodles, rice or baguette.

Cafe O-Mai also serves a pretty mean looking breakfast, either traditional Vietnamese or Australian-Vietnamese fusion - both options look impressive so I'm keen to get back some time soon to give it a go. Coffee is great and there is a selection of cold pressed juice combos available to keep most healthy types happy as well.

Another huge draw card that must be mentioned is the price - Cafe O-Mai's food is absolutely excellent value with the most expensive item on the menu setting you back a mere $16 and most of the meals are that large you could almost share them! The cafe's staff are friendly and attentive and, even on a busy day, service is prompt. I'm a huge fan of this place and have only one complaint - that it's not closer to home for me!
