These days, it's not often that you hop on a train or bus without seeing the majority of the passengers glued to a game on their iPhone.

For me, it's Angry Birds. What annoys me the most about this game, is when you don't kill the pigs, and they give you a cheeky smile before the round ends, and you have to try again.

Ahem. Looks like I should really check out Cafe Myriade for myself.

Do you remember the last time you sat around the kitchen table with family and friends, and actually played a boardgame?

Wouldn't it be nice to actually play a game that involves other parties, not just yourself and modern technology?

Modern Technology can't laugh back at your great jokes, tell you how good you look in that sweater, or give you a great big high five for winning the last round.

Which is what you'll get (in real life), and more, when you spend a little time at Cafe Myriade. Game on I say.

At 2/98 Lake Street in Northbridge, you'll find this little gem of a cafe with a difference. Upon ordering from a delicious selection of desserts and drinks, you can grab a boardgame of your choice to play.

And a myriade of boardgames they have indeed.

To name a few, you'll find Absolute Balderdash, Chess, Monopoly, Cloud 9, Taboo, Snap, Old Maid, Power Grid, and oh so many more.

You can see a list of some of the boardgames they have on offer on their website right here . There's even instructions on how to play each game.

After having a bit of a browse over the list, I have to say that I am now looking forward to a good old fashioned game of Apples to Apples.
The aim of this one is to match unusual things to descriptions given to you by the referee. These can be humorous, sensible, even totally ridiculous. But that's the fun of it, and you're learning at the same time, a good one for the kid's.

So let's go back a little bit, to how this idea came about.
Basically, the restaurant owners wanted to see people laugh out loud in real life, not just LOL. They wanted to take people back to a time when entertainment came in the form of a box with a couple of dice, not a mobile phone.

And mixed with a few delicious desserts, like Tiramisu, Chocolate Baci Cupcakes, and Honey and Macadamia Nut Slice, and you have a tasty, desirable, mega fun afternoon or evening out. That's right. Out.

Cafe Myriade also has a selection of cookies, like the Blueberry Cream Cookie Sandwich, and Melting Moment Marble, which I have no doubt go perfectly with a hot or cold beverage.

All people, young and old, from 0-99 years can challenge each other to a game at Cafe Myriade.

It's open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 2pm until late, and before 7pm, it's 'All You Can Play' for just $8.00 per person. Snap.
