For someone who can't shut up, I'm lost for words. And that's because I try really hard to say nothing if I don't have anything nice to say. That's pretty much my dilemma after dining at Café Lucio. So I'm just going to tell you like it is and let you be the judge.

Café Lucio is more like a restaurant with a roomy interior and an extensive menu featuring plenty of sandwich options in addition to breakfast and burgers. There's a lovely outdoor area where you can just chill with a drink and people-watch to your heart's content.

Getting back indoors, the day's special is spelt out for you on a black board and you have the regular menu alongside. It's so full of options that it might take you a while to make up your mind. I decided to give the Big Breakfast a miss as I have been going a bit overboard on that in recent times.

We decided on the salmon breakfast, the usual eggs and bacon, and the Spanish omelette. The eggs and bacon were quite ordinary and didn't set any hearts racing; although I can't speak for the invisible cholesterol that may make its presence felt in twenty years or so. The salmon brekkie was certified just okay by the consumer.

The omelette was my dish of choice but it made my palate cringe and rebel against the rubbery feel. No amount of salt and pepper and borrowed hollandaise sauce made any difference. Well, sometimes a bad omelette is just that, a bad omelette; due apologies to Freud.

The servings were quite generous, which meant there was a lot of uneaten food at the end of the meal. But there's only so much you can do. The coffee was okay, but a bit stronger than I'm used to. We decided the hot chocolate was better. Maybe we caught them on the chef's day off or managed to order beyond their range of expertise, but I don't know if I'd dare to go back in there and check if this indeed was the case.

It's a bit of a mystery somehow that in spite of the food being what we'd sampled the place was bustling with activity and lots of customers. Did they know something we didn't? The place does have a good vibe. The service is quick and the waiters relaxed and efficient. There was no one I could get angry at, except perhaps the invisible chef.

So there you go. What do you make of a place that is spacious, busy, has passable service, and large servings, but the food leaves a lot to be desired? If the food isn't that good, why on earth is that café so busy?
