Cafe L'Incontro

Published August 21st 2011
Wandering down Swanston Street in search of dessert one night, my partner and I struggled to find anything to satisfy our sweet tooth. Disillusioned after passing by endless trashy fast food restaurants, we cautiously approached Cafe L'Incontro, not wanting to get our hopes up. But when we saw the display of cakes, we couldn't get to a table fast enough.

After much deliberation over the cakes on offer, we settled on the delightfully chocolatey treats pictured below. They were made all the more delightful by the meagre price, of about $6 each.

The fantastic location, on the corner next to Melbourne Town Hall, is the defining feature of Cafe L'Incontro. With the windows being full-length, there is a great view from inside as well as from the outdoor dining area.

Cafe L'Incontoro.

Cafe L'Incontoro would be a fabulous option for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast menu is standard for a cafe, mostly featuring endless ways of serving eggs. If you want a very exciting breakfast that you're willing to risk your health for, try the cherry ripe pancakes. If it's lunch or dinnertime, their specialty is the L'Incontro Burger, which can be made with beef or chicken. There are a few other meal options, including a chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, and salads. There is also a large selection of ready-made wraps and focaccias on display.

If you fancy a quick bite to eat during the ungodly hours of the night, Cafe L'Incontro is open 24 hours a day for all your snacking needs. This could be particularly handy on the way home from a night out- rather than gorging yourself on burgers, you could enjoy delectable cafe fare. It is also a licensed cafe, so you can even keep the night going by ordering a drink while you're there.

The pricing is all quite reasonable, with all meals under $20, and most being around the $15 mark. Payments on eftpos are accepted.

Iíve walked past this place a thousand times but always figured it was overpriced and tacky. From that picture and what you say about the prices, I guess I was dead wrong. Thanks for this review Ė I think Iíll head out soon and experience it for myself.

I can see where you're coming from, it's hard not to judge it based on its competitors. That it was actually pretty good was quite a surprise!
